Specialized Resources Veterans Should Know About

Support built around the need.

PTSD

Veterans experiencing combat trauma, Military Sexual Trauma, nightmares, hypervigilance, anxiety, anger, depression, or other trauma-related symptoms can use the VA PTSD Program Locator to find specialized treatment in their state. VA medical centers and many VA clinics also provide PTSD treatment.

Substance Use & Addiction

VA provides treatment for alcohol and drug-use disorders, including specialized Substance Use Disorder programs throughout the country. Veterans can also be referred to community treatment when appropriate.

Women Veterans

Every VA health-care system has a Women Veterans Program Manager who can help women Veterans navigate VA health services and connect with appropriate care.

Military Sexual Trauma

VA and eligible Vet Centers provide counseling and treatment related to the psychological effects of Military Sexual Trauma. Vet Center counseling is provided in a confidential community-based environment.

Spiritual & Faith-Based Support

VA Chaplain Services provide spiritual and pastoral support to Veterans and families representing a broad range of religious traditions and beliefs. VA medical centers maintain chaplain services, including coverage for urgent situations.

Community Mental Health Care

When authorized under VA eligibility requirements, VA Community Care can connect Veterans with community providers outside VA facilities.

Suicide Prevention

SAMHSA and VA also work with states through the Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families, bringing military, Veteran, state, and community partners together to strengthen Veteran suicide-prevention systems.
